Udzungwa is the most significant example of the Eastern Arc Mountains’ natural world that runs in a chain throughout Tanzania.
The park’s forests make Udzungwa unique in East Africa, as there is no other place where an unbroken series of forests stretching from an altitude of 250 metres up to more than 2000 metres has been successfully preserved.
They change in aspect considerably with increasing altitude, from lush lowland rain forests up to foggy or misty montane forests. This park has innumerable natural details that place it in a class of its own on a world scale, no less.
The park has many attractions, including the superb Sanje waterfalls, 370 metres in total height, and one of the most outstanding natural sights in the Udzungwa Mountains National Park.
Numerous species of flora and fauna are endemic to Udzungwa, and astonishingly, these even include two medium-sized monkeys who live exclusively in these forests.
